Come to City Hall on Friday February 26 to speak out against the huge MUNI service cuts. This MTA meeting might vote for DEEP CUTS and SEVERE HIKES. Come and Speak Out!

The MTA has planned huge cuts and increases for MUNI:

  • Increase in youth and senior passes from $15 to $30
  • Increase in residential parking permits by $20
  • Cuts to OWL services
  • Cuts to service of MUNI lines: 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 8x, 8ax, 9, 9L, 12, 14, 14L, 14x, 16x, 18, 19, 21, 22, 23, 24, 27, 28, 29, 30, 31, 33, 43, 44, 45, 47, 49, 54, 71, 71L, 88, 108, F, J, K, L, M, N, and T
  • Extra "premium" cost for cable cars
  • Extra "premium" cost for express busses

Even if the cuts are approved, next year's deficit amounts to $52.7 million! This means more cuts and hikes will be planned even after these new ones are implemented.

TAX THE RICH!

We demand that the city:

  • Implement a progressive tax on incomes over $200,00 to fund public services
  • Cap city administrator and manager salaries at $125,000. Today, 10,000 people employed by the city have a base salary of over $100,000 per year!
  • Collect taxes amounting to over $59 million owed by developers, landlords, and big business NOW!
  • Stop the SFPD and other agencies from using MTA funds.

On September 24th 5,000 workers and students went on strike and rallied against cutbacks and layoffs at UC Berkeley.

A follow-up conference drew 800 mostly young people who called a one day strike and day of action across California for March 4th, 2010.

To those of you against the cuts in education and public services, foreclosures and layoffs, the movement for March 4th wants you to join and be part of a powerful state-wide strike.

In Oakland, classes are overcrowded and the dropout rate is alarmingly high. Society only offers Wal-Mart type jobs, or incarceration as a future for our youth. Workers face only more intense conditions at work as layoffs increase the workload for the remaining staff.

16% of Oakland residents are officially unemployed. Every year more Oakland schools close due to budget cuts. Oakland Unified School Teachers, Building and Grounds workers, and other public sector workers are having their wages, benefits, and conditions driven back decades. We want a future and we will fight for it. Now is the time to begin a fightback.

Say NO TO THE BUDGET CUTS in education, public services, housing, and employment by joining the movement for the March 4th strike.

San Francisco Unified School District is facing a $60-83 million deficit over the next two years, so school administrators are threatening layoffs and increases in class size.

San Francisco is a tough town for workers... You need to make $31.88 / hour (on average) to rent a 2 bedroom apartment. Increasingly, society offers only low pay, no benefit jobs, or incarceration as a future for working class youth.

In both the public and private sectors, workers face more intense conditions at work as layoffs increase the workload for the remaining staff.

NOW IS THE TIME to begin a fightback!
