Town Halls to generate “People's Agenda for Metro”:The Coalition of Metro Labor Unions is planning a series of Town Halls this month to develop a “People’s Agenda for Metro.” “With the finalization of the FY2018 budget just months away, it is clear to us that the WMATA Board is not going to effectively get public input from each jurisdiction before approving this budget,” says ATU 689 president Jackie Jeter (click here for her brief video). Current budget proposals include longer wait times for trains, elimination of essential bus lines, and firing of 1,000 workers. “These proposals will have real consequences for the people who depend on Metro and the public’s input must be heard,” Jeter said. The coalition, comprised of ATU Local 689, OPEIU Local 2 and Teamsters Locals 922 and 639, represents more than 13,000 workers at Metro, and is urging attendance by allies and the public. “It is important to listen to our ridership so that we can face these challenges together,” Jeter said. The Town Hall dates are January 5 (Prince George’s County), January 18 (Montgomery County) and January 24 (Arlington, Virginia). Click herefor complete details on locations and times.
