The South Korean Rail Strike and the Suppression of Unions

On December 22, 2013, the right-wing government of Park Geun-hye illegally attacked the offices of the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions (KCTU) with 5,000 police and military troops. The government was attempting to arrest the leaders of the Korean Rail Workers Union (KRWU), which waged the longest rail strike in South Korean history to stop the privatization of the railways.

Documentary films with a highly charged subject matter can make for some fascinating cinema. And in general for movies New York offers a compelling backdrop. So when a documentary came to Indie Sonar’s attention about the NYC bus driver strike, we were keen to know what went into making it.
