MEDIA ADVISORY - PRESS CONFERENCE
Rev. Jesse Jackson Joins Major Transit Unions
To Save Transit Jobs, Service in New York & Nationwide
National Transit Coalition, Keep America Moving, Forming Nationwide
WHERE: Outside Pennsylvania Station,
32nd Street and 7th Avenue, New York City.
WHEN: Wednesday, March 31, at 5 PM.
WHAT: Rev. Jesse Jackson, founder of the Rainbow PUSH Coalition, will join TWU Local 100 President John Samuelsen, other major transportation union leaders, environmental organizations, and elected officials to kick off a national campaign to save mass transit jobs and service.
In New York, and across the nation, financially strapped public transit systems are canceling routes and cutting hours of operation, while raising fares. These cutbacks are creating an extreme hardship for those dependent on public busses and trains and an economic strain on communities all across America as well as slowing the nation’s economic recovery.
Calling funding for public mass transit systems “an obligation of government,” participants will announce a new organization, Keep America Moving, to coordinate their efforts.

French air traffic controllers' strike latest European labor trouble
A French air traffic controllers' strike has grounded dozens of flights in Paris, one of Europe's busiest air travel hubs. The first hints of spring appear to be bringing strike fever to Europe.

Paris —
With chills from a ghastly European winter in abeyance, thoughts on the continent are turning to labor strikes. This week, a French air traffic controllers' strike has roiled European travel, grounding half of the regional flights from Orly and a quarter from Charles DeGaulle, the two main Paris hubs, until Saturday.
French air traffic controllers, currently among the most well paid in Europe and required to work only 100 days a year, are angry at a proposal to consolidate air traffic control with some of their European neighbors, which they fear will lead to salary and benefit reductions.
Air travel-associated strikes in recent days have created delays and ticket-counter drama elsewhere as well. Pilots for Lufthansa ended a one-day strike last night, but there will be routing and delays until Friday, authorities say. In all, some 800 flights have been affected.

June 27 2008
On June 27 the Tokyo Metropolitan Public Safety Commission decided to ban the demonstration in front of Shibuya station planned on June 29 as a part of Anti-G8 Summit Workers’ National Rally against war, poverty, unemployment and privatization. (The application of the demonstration with a course passing in front of Shibuya railway station (downtown Tokyo) had been filed by the Organizing Committee of the Anti-G8 Summit Rally to the Tokyo Metropolitan Public Safety Commission.) This ban is an impermissible brutal crackdown by the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department on the movement to oppose the G8 Summit.
The Organizing Committee of the Anti-G8 Summit Rally denounce this outrageous measure and declare our firm determination to carry out the demonstration as was planned in front of Shibuya station in defiance of the police ban.
The streets running in front of Shibuya station are usually open for marches and demonstrations of every kind and are regarded as the most popular course. The only reason given by the Tokyo Metropolitan Public Safety Committee to ban the demonstration is that it could provoke disturbance. We shall never admit the right of workers to demonstrate to be regulated and infringed in such way.
