Dear friends of ATU Local 1555,
We, National Railway Motive Power Union of Chiba (Doro-Chiba) sends herewith, across the Ocean, our sincere solidarity message to the 4 and half days decisive strike waged by ATU Local 1555, SEIU Local 1021, AFSCME Local 3993 and ATU Local 192 in the beginning of July.
And also we wish your great success the All Out Solidarity Rally To Stop Attacks On BART Transit Workers held in Oakland on the coming August 1, and strongly hope you'll win a decent contract.
We know that BART is forcing you to accept continuation of a heavy wage cuts and 4-year wage freeze since 2009 contract agreement, and additionally pushing a share of pension contribution and increase of monthly health insurance premiums. And also we feel fierce anger that BART has hired a flagrant union buster, aiming above all to break unity of union members in the course of attack of heavy undercuts of working conditions. We understand that the real aim of this attack would be union busting, selling out the very workplaces, privatization and outsourcing, as same attack as on ILWU now. Because the last resort only remained for neo-liberalism on the brink of crisis is privatization & outsourcing and casualization & non-unionization.
In Japan also we are confronted with a full-scale privatization. The policy of reducing public workers' wages by an average 7.8 percent will be spread on all workers. Furthermore, the state and capital are intending introduction of "limited regular employees", revision of Worker Dispatch Law, lifting of restriction of arbitrary dismissal, legalization of unpaid overtime work, dismantling of social security system, consumption tax increase, participation in TPP talks, etc. In a word, they are going to demolish the very base of working people's subsistence.
And for their own survival, the state and capital have been driving policy of deserting Fukushima people and let them live for themselves, and is planning to restart nuclear power plants.
However your struggle is proving now how these attacks are fragile in comparison with their overbearing attitude, and we also awaken to the same through our fights.

Victory for the BART workers!
Let's fight in international solidarity!
